Gulumwa Village is located in the Kwimba District 33 km from the paved road.  Its population of 3,500 people obtain water from a hand-dug dam that collects rain water and run-off.  The quality of the water is dirty and  unfit for human consumption.  In 2007, another organization drilled a deep borehole well in this village at 78 meters, but a damaged hand pump renders the well useless.

CT  has implemented a plan to work with the villages to maintain our wells, and has decided to replace this hand pump so the 1,100 primary students and their families, 30 widows and 20 orphan children will again have access to clean water.
